It's been a while since I blogged. I didn't realize it until I forgot the password of my blog, which is not a good sign.
I started to think about what the possibilities of passwords I knew. I'm impressed by all the different kind of passwords I need to remember : smu email, hotmail email, facebook, bank accounts, blog, shop accounts,...etc
That's why I started to mix up my password, so I had to try all those different combinations in order to find the right one. I wish they could invent something that would keep track of all your passwords. Something that would give you the right password when you see the web page in front of you. Maybe the next technology could invent something that your eyes will sent an signal to a device that will show you in the next second the password for that window...

7 monsters by 7PM

As I said 3 blog posts before that I'm really behind with school. The fact that my friends are in the same situation makes me feel better. Solution --> library party and monster. This is the third evening in a row that we're in the library for several hours. We're all exhausted, it's time for spring break to begin so we can catch up some sleep. We've had with 4 people already 7 monsters by 7PM, and the night is still young. We haven't included the red bulls and the amount of sugar we had. I don't think all those monsters will be good for our body, but we've to make it to Friday and I don't see any other solution beside monster.
This is a picture i took 2 hours ago in the library. We're still here, sitting at the same table...
intertextuality
before I forget, I haven't done my blog about intertextuality yet. I'll give you an example of 2 examples horizontal intertextuality.
The first one I'll show you is horizontal intertextuality. This commercial is for Volkswagen Golf and it's based on the final of Britain got talent 2008. During that show, George Sampson won the final of Britain got talent with this dance. They show the exact moves in the commercial.
Volkswagen Golf TV Advert with Gene Kelly
The next commercial is also based on horizontal intertextuality. The commercial, created for Coca Cola is based on the video game : Grand Theft Auto. Apparently this is a really important video game, just like Coca Cola is number 1 soda in the world.

I have a dream
It's been over 20 years that they say that we'll get a new pool. After 20 years, the coaches are still waiting to see some progression. SMU has a really good men and women swimming and diving team. Both teams placed top 15 at NCAA and are ranked high. Why don't they get that new pool? I wish I had a picture of the football or basketball locker room and compare it with ours. Every day, people pass the pool and don't really realize how hard the athletes practice and in what kind of conditions.
I had to take 3 semesters of ESL. I still remembered one of the assignments I had to make. We were talking about Martin Luther King and how popular his speech is. Our professor asked us if we could create a speech, similar to MLK's, but in a goal that we have.
The first thing that crossed my mind was a new pool, so I wrote a speech about the new pool we're waiting for.
I enclosed a part of the speech that I created by myself. I hope you'll enjoy it!

SMU swimming and diving have a dream ---> a new pool!
I say to you today, my friends, so even though the world faces with many difficulties of hunger and poverty, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the SMU swimming and diving team’s dream.
I have a dream that one day sponsors will come and help them build a new pool.
I have a dream that one day the money will not go to the popular sports but that each sport will be treated equally.
I have a dream that one day one of us will win the lottery and spend the money for the new pool.
I have a dream that my teammates will one day swim in the new pool and that they will get respect for all their hard work.
I have a dream that one day the pool will be filled with fresh water, and we can make the first dive in the pool without slipping of the blocks, and that the showers will have enough warm water.
This will be the day when we will be swimming with a new meaning.
Our pool it is we see
The water, our sanctuary
To all thee
Lanes where we have swum
Lanes where we have won
Every starting gun sets us free.

I'm so behind...

I realized today that I'm so behind with all my homework. I looked in my journal and I just wanted to start crying. I have to catch up from last week, which I missed because of a swim meet. A lot of teachers think: " I can just give the students the test the week before spring week..." If every teacher think the same way, we end up with a lot of homework and studying to do. I was yesterday in the library, and it was full. I've never seen that many people in the library before. I already know that I've to work during spring break to be a little bit ahead, if possible, because the week after the break I'm leaving for NCAA. So, my spring break won't be as fun but I think I'm just going to need to do it no matter what!
Thought you would appreciate this cartoon... It gave me some extra motivation to study some more!
Euthanasia: Are you in favor?
During my philosophy class, we had a conversation about Euthanasia. As I was doing my one page paper about an article I read, " Active and Passive form of Euthanasia" by James Rachels, I started to think about what I would do in a situation like that.
72% of the US population is in favor of Euthanasia. but it's only legal in 3 states. I think I'm a part of the 72% because I rather die than suffer from an immense pain. There are a lot of moral issues involved in the progress. I just cannot imagine myself suffering from a terminal illness and go through everything. I hope my family will make the same decision for me if I'm unconscious. Nowadays, there are forms you can fill in for when you're in that kind of position. Of course I hope I'll never have to suffer that much, but you never know how your life will turn out.

How a massage can increase performances and a person's mood

When I was in high school, I was used to have a massage 3 times a week for free. Coming to the States made me realize that I was having a luxurious life because athletes need to pay for their massages at SMU. Of Course I thought that I didn't really need the massage because I didn't want to pay for it. After a month I could barely wear my suit because my shoulders were so tight that I caused an injury. After a while I decided to start paying for my massage and I'm telling you, my performances have improved so much since I started the massages. I can now actually move my shoulders around, which is an amazing feeling. Not only athletes should get a massage every once in a while. Adults who work a lot and have a lot of stress can benefit from a massage. That hour will relax you and after the massage, you'll be ready and full of positive energy.
Taking care of your body should be a priority. It's more important than money, time or anything else. You only have one body, so you need to take care of it in order to have an easier life when you get older!
P90 X
Saturday evening, when I was watching TV, I saw a commercial about P90X. I thought that it would be something like all those other programs where they photo shop the pictures in order to make them look better. My coach started the P90X program 3 weeks ago so I was wondering if she liked it or not. I asked her today what she thought of it. She told me that she really felt in shape but that it's hard. To be honest, I think my coach had already an athletic body, she went to the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004. I saw her doing some of those workout and let me tell you, they look really intense. Of course it's a program that you can make as hard as you want. I decided that I'll try the program when I retire of swimming. I just want to know how my body will look after 90 days. I realize it's not just the program that does all that, you also have to eat healthy and get enough rest.
This is a link of the commercial I saw on TV, maybe you'll get inspired and start the program...

Some sports just make you gain weight!

"Swimming increases your hunger feeling and it makes you want to have unhealthy snacks". This result came out of a British research made by Professor Dr David Stensel. The type of sport you do, has an influence on how hungry you will be afterwards and what kind of food you want. Some sports make you want to eat fruit, but others, like swimming, will make you want to eat chocolate.

how much impact words have on us...
It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
Who cannot seem to give,
And the soul afraid of dyin`
that never learns to live.
This is a part of a song my aunt sang at the funeral of my grandmother 4 years ago. The song is called: " The Rose". I've never had such a hard time in my life trying to keep my emotions within myself, because the lyrics are so emotional, especially when my aunt sang them. I just wanted to share with you that individual words don't really mean a lot by themselves. But when you combine them into sentences, they create an atmosphere. Which describes the writer's mood at the time he/ she's writing the song, poem, book,etc....

February 25-28, a date we'll never forget!

Since the first time we dove in the pool during fall semester up until last week, we trained for this particular meet. C-USA, is an important meet for the team; it's a meet we train for all season in order to swim our personal best times.
We've won this meet 12 years in a row so far, and this year we were able to accomplish our goal by winning this meet for the 13th time in a row. during this meet you can see how strong our team is and how well we all work together as one big family/team. Every race, we fight for those spots in the A finale, and every race we go for the victory.
I'm really proud to be a part of this team and to be able to swim for them! Good job Lady Mustangs! PONY UP
